Nokia and Telkomsel to launch Nokia Messaging for Indonesian consumers

Jakarta, Indonesia - Telkomsel and Nokia today announced their collaboration to offer the Nokia Messaging service, which will be commercially available to Telkomsel subscribers from 26 December 2009 onwards. Telkomsel is the first operator in Indonesia to commercially launch this service which will allow users to enjoy easy access to mobile email on their Nokia devices. Telkomsel is also the first operator worldwide to offer Nokia Messaging for Instant Messaging to prepaid consumers.

U.S. International Trade Commission confirms ruling in favor of Nokia

New York, NY, United States - Nokia announced today that the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) has reviewed the Administrative Law Judge's (ALJ) Initial Determination in favor of Nokia, in the action brought by InterDigital. Following the review, the Commission has affirmed the ALJ's Initial Determination and terminated the investigation.

Nokia is delighted with this outcome. Not only did the Commission conclude that Nokia products do not infringe InterDigital's patents, but it also withdrew the portion of the ALJ's Initial Determination that had found the patents valid.

The case, filed by InterDigital, alleged that Nokia infringed four patents that InterDigital asserted as essential for the UMTS (3G) mobile standard. Today's result is consistent with a previous judgement in the United Kingdom that found several InterDigital patents not to be essential to the UMTS mobile standard.

Saat ini di Stuttgart, Jerman, sedang berlangsung Nokia World. Dan seperti biasa, pada event tersebut Nokia banyak meluncurkan produk-produk barunya yang diharapkan bisa memenuhi kebutuhan manusia, terutama di bidang teknologi, komunikasi dan sosial.

Hal ini terlihat pada produk-produk yang diluncurkan, yakni Nokia Money, Nokia N900, Nokia Booklet 3G, Nokia 5230 dan Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition.

Nokia Money sendiri bertujuan memudahkan pengguna Nokia untuk melakukan transaksi dan pembayaran. Sementara Nokia N900 dan Nokia Booklet 3G digadang-gadang sebagai icon perubahan yang terjadi di dunia dan Nokia adalah pemegang kendali untuk hal itu.

Alih-alih meraih sukses, saya takutkan NB 3G ini akan bernasib sama dengan beberapa produk Dell.

Nokia 5230 sendiri bisa dikatakan bukan produk baru Nokia yang mempunyai fitur musik, foto dan video serta bisa berbagi melalui internet. Namun, beberapa tambahan fitur seperti dukungan Ovi Store, GPS, serta kemudahan mengakses beberapa jejaring sosial yang cukup gegap gempita membuat produk ini tetap layak dilirik dan digunakan. Selain itu, kemampuan dan waktu nyala selama 33 jam merupakan daya tarik bagi para pecinta musik.

Terakhir, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition merupakan produk Nokia yang akan selalu membantu sang pemilik untuk menemukan jalan di daerah setempat. Selain itu layanan Ovi Maps akan hadir melengkapi produk dengan nuansa ‘petualangan’ ini.

Stuttgart, Germany - Nokia today made it easier for web publishers and developers to create applications with integrated services and native-like user interfaces, quickly and with less effort with new Ovi APIs and the Ovi SDK Beta. Announced at its annual Nokia World conference, the company said it will progressively roll out web and mobile APIs for its services, beginning with the Ovi Maps Player API and the Ovi Navigation Player API for cutting-edge location solutions on its smartphones. The company also hosted a keynote from Henri Moissinac, Director of Mobile, Facebook, highlighting the opportunities in mobile social networking and the close collaboration between the two companies.

"This is just the beginning. We will work in close cooperation with developers to evolve the offering, starting with social location solutions," said Niklas Savander, EVP, Services, Nokia. Nokia also announced the Apps on Maps category winner of the 2009 Calling All Innovators competition. Using the Ovi SDK Beta, Primordial, from St. Paul, Minnesota emerged tops in its category by creating Ground Guidance, an application based on technology originally built for the U.S. Army. The application, which wins USD 30,000 amongst other prizes, enables the Ovi Maps user to get from one point to another, even if there are no roads or road data. Nokia and Telecom Italia sign agreement for Nokia Messaging

Stuttgart, Germany - Nokia and Telecom Italia announced today the new offer of Nokia Messaging, an easy-to-use messaging service, to Telecom Italia customers in Italy. From the middle of September, Telecom Italia customers will be able to access the Nokia Messaging push email service and subscribe offers designed to send and receive email from the mobile phone at very affordable prices.

With the new offering MAXXI Mail, all TIM customers will have 1 GB of storage a month to check their email while on the move at a cost of EUR 4 per month including VAT. The offer is valid for those customers who choose the top-up option as well as the ones who have a contract.

Nokia Jadi Jawara di Pasar Smart Phone

Nokia masih menjadi yang teratas di pasar ponsel pintar, untuk tahun 2008. Demikian menurut riset terakhir dari firma Gartner, yang diumumkan baru-baru ini.

Dari data riset, Nokia sukses mengapalkan tak kurang dari 60,9 juta unit ponsel pintar tahun lalu. Vendor ponsel asal Finlandia itu merengkuh sekitar 43,7 persen pangsa pasar ponsel pintar dunia.

Jumlah itu jauh melebihi kompetitor terdekatnya asal Kanada, Research in Motions (RIM), yang hanya mengoleksi sekitar 16,6 persen pangsa pasar.

Kendati demikian, pangsa pasar Nokia mengalami penurunan. Sejak 2007, penjualan ponsel-ponsel pintar Nokia cuma meningkat 0,8 persen, dan pangsa pasarnya mengalami penurunan dari 49,4 persen.

Seperti dilansir dari situs CNet Penurunan pangsa pasar Nokia sangat kontras dengan pertumbuhan yang dialami ponsel BlackBerry dari RIM.

BlackBerry Bold dan BlackBerry Storm membuat pangsa pasar RIM terdongkrak naik dari 9,6 persen pada 2007, menjadi 16,6 persen di tahun 2008.

Begitu pula dengan Apple iPhone. Pangsa pasar Apple juga meningkat dari 2,7 persen pada 2007, menjadi 8,2 persen di tahun lalu.

Sementara penjualan iPhone juga melesat 245,7 persen, dengan 11,1 juta unit iPhone sukses terjual di 2008.

Produk gress Nokia, Nokia N97, hadir di pasar global Juni lalu. Secara serempak, Nokia N97 hadir di 75 negara, khususnya di Eropa dan Amerika.

Produk N Series ini menggunakan OS Symbian. Fitur unggulan yang ingin disajkan ada user, layar sebesar “3.5” inchi 16 juta warna beresolusi 640 x 360 pixel layar sentuh.

Lalu desain sliding dengan keyboard QWERTY, kamera 5 megapixel autofokus dilengkapi dengan lampu flash LED ganda dan pelindung lensa (perekaman video beresolusi VGA@30fps), OS Symbian OS 9.4 dengan tampilan S60 Edisi ke-5, prosesor ARM 11 434MHz CPU dan RAM sebesar 128 MB, jaringan quad-band GSM dan 3G dengan dukungan HSDPA, Wi-Fi dan GPS dengan dukungan A-GPS (sudah termasuk panduan suara gratis selama 3 bulan pada Ovi Maps), kompas digital, memory internal sebesar 32GB, slot microSD dengan dukungan microSDHC, akselerometer, Jack audio 3.5 mm, TV out, Radio FM stereo dengan dukungan RDS dan pemancar sinyal FM, Port microUSB dan Bluetooth Stereo v2.0, Browser dengan dukungan Flash dan Java, plus kualitas audio yang memukau.

Sayang, produk yang mestinya berpeluang jadi jawara ini memiliki beberapa kelemahan seperti tampilan interface-nya yang kurang menarik. Di luar itu, N97 juga lemah di kualitas kamera, DivX atau XviD player, dan fitur smart dialing.
